About Luke
Like many, I once dismissed astrology as nothing more than superstition.
My life experience and schooling reinforced the value of hard work, the power of the rational mind, and empirical truths. However, beginning in 2020 with the onset of the pandemic, new events—in my life and in the wider collective—catalyzed me to reexamine many of my deepest beliefs. If you’re curious to learn more, I wrote about it here.
I began to seek wisdom that might shed light on this strange, wonderful, and sometimes, terrifying experience of being human. I was particularly interested in the timeless questions of life: How did we get here? What makes our time here most meaningful? What happens to the soul when we die?
My search for answers took me on a journey of studies that encompassed poetry, depth, archetypal, and transpersonal psychology, psychedelics, ancient philosophy, and astrology. Along the way I earned certifications in Soul-Centered Psychology (rooted in Jung, Hillman, and Grof’s work, among others) and Hellenistic Astrology.
I believe astrology to be a sacred and symbolic language that empowers people to consciously reflect on their life, engage with the archetypal nature of reality, and step deeper into their soul’s calling. In natal chart consultations, depending on the client’s needs, I may incorporate poetry readings, meditation, active-imagination exercises, and journal prompts. Each session looks slightly different as it is tailored to your needs and what you are looking to get out of our session.
One of my favorite astrologers, Richard Tarnas, once likened the birth chart to an epic poem that is to be read and re-read over a lifetime. He emphasized the importance of having multiple “poets” help you interpret it.
It would be my joy and honor to meet you and be one such “poet” you trust enough to accompany you in your own search for truth and meaning.
What is Holotropic Astrology?
Though I trained in the Hellenistic tradition, Holotropic Astrology is the phrase I chose to describe the manner in which I practice and approach consultations with my clients.
I was drawn to study in the Hellenistic tradition because it is the original form of horoscopic astrology and provides the most comprehensive rationale for the doctrines and techniques that compose astrological theory and practice. Put simply, it was important to me to understand the “why” behind what we’re doing when we engage with astrology.
While our modern scientific paradigm leaves no room for divinatory art forms like astrology, from the perspective of our ancestors who believed in an ensouled cosmos—a place where everything was alive and pregnant with symbolic significance—astrology was a sacred technology that could bring us into deeper correspondence with life itself. When practiced with compassion and rigor, I believe astrology can still do this today. Furthermore, it can reawaken us to the wonder of an ensouled cosmos.
I first came across the term, “holotropic,” early in my studies of archetypal and transpersonal psychology. I came to learn that it was coined by Stanislav Grof, a pioneer in transpersonal psychology and one of the leading researchers of non-ordinary states of consciousness. The word is derived from two Greek words: holos (meaning “whole”) and trepein (meaning “to move towards”). While the term is best known as a form of breath work, there are numerous experiences that embody the holotropic spirit—experiences rich with the potential to heal, nourish, and move us towards greater wholeness.
When working with a capable astrologer, a cosmic sympathy reveals itself through the birth chart, demonstrating the subtle interpenetration of your unique inner world and the collective universe. Together, they form a whole. As the philosopher, Plotinus, once said:
The stars are like letters which inscribe themselves at every moment in the sky. Everything in the world is full of signs. All events are coordinated. All things depend on each other. Everything breathes together.
Thoughtful engagement with your birth chart can be a poignant reminder that wholeness is not something you construct, but rather something you belong to.
